ABOUT

New Vernacular is a design and fabrication Studio founded by Sami El Khattabi, and Located in Los Angeles, CA.

Trained as an Architect between Morocco and France before moving to the United States, he has worked in multiple architecture offices over the past 8 years. During that time, he also developed a passion for making, combining his expertise in digital fabrication with a reverence for vernacular crafts.

Motivated by the desire to express a new contemporary point of view on the ancient craft of Tadelakt, he spent multiple months apprenticing under a master artisan in Morocco.

This experience became the foundation for the first furniture pieces crafted in his Los Angeles studio, which opened the path for the many custom commissions and collaborations that followed, both with private clients and interior designers across the US.

However, this is only the beginning of what New Vernacular has in store. We are continuously looking for new design challenges, with the ambition to produce objects and spaces that transcend the ordinary while remaining rooted in craft and the handmade.
